The National Academy of Sciences' new potato variety, 'Knyagina', has set a record harvest at 108 tons per hectare in the Cherkasy region, placing it as the top yielding variety in trials involving 82 other varieties from the Netherlands, Germany, France, and other regions. Five other Ukrainian varieties also performed well in these trials. The Institute of Potato Growing is exploring potential uses of these varieties for chip production, with 'Solokha' already passing technological tests and showing interest from 'Chipsy Lux' company. The EU-funded PhotoBoost project aims to boost potato crop yield through gene editing, while the USAID AGRO program is supporting Ukrainian micro, small, and medium potato producers. Ireland plans to provide potato planting support to 10,000 vulnerable Ukrainian farms through the FAO, and Washington State University's research on optimal potato row distances has been applied in the Columbia River basin.
