UN agency to distribute wheat seeds to 85,000 farmers in Afghanistan

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has announced plans to distribute wheat seed packages to farmers across Afghanistan, as part of its ongoing efforts to address the country’s growing food insecurity. In a statement on X, FAO said that 5.9 million people, including 850,000 families, will benefit from the aid in 2024. The distribution is expected to focus on Afghanistan’s southeastern regions. The wheat seed packages are funded by the World Bank, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Swedish government, according to FAO. This initiative comes as Afghanistan faces a severe food crisis.
