Unión de Uniones (UdU) of Farmers and Livestock Breeders expresses its deep concern over the proposed Regulation of the European Parliament and Council that establishes a tariff quota for the entry into the EU of 500,000 tons of nuts from the United States with zero tariff. In light of this situation, the organization has already presented two amendments to the MEPs in various meetings held in Brussels in recent days to exclude nuts from the tariff quota provided for in Annex III to ensure market stability, the continuity of the Mediterranean productive fabric, and coherence with the guiding principles of the EU's agricultural and trade policy. A second amendment also calls for the removal of all references to these products in the preamble of the Regulation, in order to ensure legal clarity, internal legislative coherence, and the adequate protection of a strategic sector for the European economy and rural environment.
