United States: CF Industries and POET launch pilot project for low-carbon fertilizer

Source: chemengonline.com On January 27, 2026, CF Industries Holdings and POET – the world's largest producer of biofuels – launched a pilot project with major agricultural cooperatives to build a low-carbon fertilizer supply chain. The goal of the project is to demonstrate that the use of low-carbon nitrogen fertilizer can significantly reduce carbon emissions intensity in corn production, while also laying the groundwork for the production of low-carbon ethanol for transportation fuel and export. The project involves WinField United – the supply and farming solutions unit of Land O'Lakes – along with agricultural cooperatives NuWay-K&H, New Cooperative, and Farmer’s Cooperative. The participants will monitor and certify the carbon intensity of the low-carbon fertilizer produced by CF Industries, from distribution through the retail system to corn farmers in the states of Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, and Nebraska.
