The Pará State Environmental Council (Coema) has published a new resolution (No. 184) to regulate meliponiculture, the activity involved in raising native stingless bees in Pará, Brazil. This legislation, drafted with significant input from Embrapa Amazônia Oriental, aims to foster sustainable management and environmental licensing for the activity. It allows meliponiculturists to manage, transport, and sell hives and products, with certain exemptions for those with a specified number of hives. The regulation is expected to enhance food security, income generation, environmental services, and biodiversity conservation. The drafting of the resolution was a collaborative effort involving beekeepers and public institutions, with support from the Amazon Fund and the Ministry of Agrarian Development.
