The Upper East Region of Ghana is currently experiencing a shortage of onions, leading to a significant price increase over the past two months. Both Burkina Faso-grown and locally-grown onions are affected, with prices rising to 55 cedis and 60 cedis respectively. Despite the higher costs, locally-grown onions are popular due to their superior taste. The price hike is causing concern for consumers and increasing production costs for businesses. The shortage and high demand are expected to persist as the Christmas and new year holidays approach.
