The European Commission has released draft recommendations for the future of the EU wine industry, which include measures to safeguard the industry's European budget for competitiveness and promotion, while also allowing for greater flexibility in the use of promotion funds. The draft also suggests that the uprooting of vineyards, a measure requested by some EU production areas to combat structural excess supply, should be funded nationally. The High Level Group also recommends excluding vineyards with high landscape value from the scrapping process to preserve specific funds for promotion. The final document is set to be released on December 16.
