The Korean government is strategically delaying the complete market opening by securing a long-term tariff abolition period of over 10 years for major imported agricultural and livestock products under free trade agreements (FTAs). Since the Korea-Chile FTA in 2003, import duties on agricultural products have been progressively eliminated. Major livestock product exporting countries are expected to be exempt from customs duties within 7 years. Tariffs on beef from the US and Australian beef will be eliminated in 2026 and 2028, respectively. Pork products from the EU, US, and Canada are already or will soon be duty-free. Chicken products from the EU and US will also become duty-free in the coming years. Tariffs on major imported fruits are also expected to be eliminated soon.
