The American Hazelnut Marketing Council projects a record-high harvest of 101,633.431 tons this year, surpassing previous estimates. U.S. hazelnut production represents 5% of the global market and is mainly concentrated in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, with 70% of the world's production centered in Turkey. Hazelnuts exported from the U.S. have seen a price increase over the past five years, reaching a peak of $5.07 per kilogram in 2022, but are expected to decrease to $4.75 per kilogram in 2024 due to the impact of the Sino-US trade war. Additionally, the spread of the stink bug, a hazelnut-eating pest, in Oregon may affect future hazelnut production.
