According to data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), a total of 222.9 million bushels of wheat were ground for flour in Q2 2025 — down 2% from the previous quarter and 1% from the same period a year earlier. Overall flour production reached 102.9 million cwts, also 2% lower both quarter-over-quarter and year-over-year. DeMarchi noted that the industry has shown impressive resilience despite factors such as inflation, the growing popularity of weight-loss drugs, and the “Make America Healthy Again” movement. Whole wheat flour production fell to 4.1 million cwts, marking the lowest quarterly level since NASS began collecting data more than a decade ago.
