US reduces tariff on coffee, but frustrates sector

The cuts announced by the United States for tariffs on around 200 food products stirred up Brazil's agricultural sector. The tariffs applied to the country's sales fell from 50% to 40%, after initial doubts among exporters about the scope of the measure. The Ministry of Agriculture informed that the adjustment only affects reciprocity fees created in April, which accounted for 10% in the Brazilian case. The additional 40% tariff, set in July, remains in effect, which frustrated sectors that had hoped to eliminate charges, such as the coffee sector. Negotiations between the two countries had been gaining momentum since October, following a meeting between the presidents in Malaysia.
