US shrimp imports in 2022 have decreased from last year's record, with the majority of the top 10 suppliers reducing exports to the US. The only exceptions were Ecuador, with a 2% increase, and Mexico, with a 67% increase. Factors contributing to the decrease in imports include logistical issues, global inflation, lack of cold storage, and high inventory. As a result, US shrimp consumption is expected to decline in the last quarter of the year. Vietnam's shrimp exports to the US have also seen a significant decrease, down 42% in September 2022 and 13% accumulated over nine months, due to competition from cheaper shrimp from Ecuador and India, inflation, and problems with transportation and cold storage caused by the Covid-19 epidemic.
