U.S. shrimp imports saw a slight increase in September compared to the previous year, reaching 156.5 million pounds (70,967 MT). However, the nine-month total from January to September showed a significant 29.4% decline, dropping from 1.7 billion pounds (785,836 MT) to 1.2 billion pounds (547,989 MT). India continued to lead as the largest exporter to the U.S., followed by Ecuador and Indonesia, which experienced a 20.3% and 12% increase in imports, respectively. Vietnam also reported a 17.5% rise in its September exports. Unfortunately, the Southern Shrimp Alliance reported that the FDA had refused 57 seafood entry lines in October due to banned antibiotics, bringing the annual total to the second highest since 2017. The refusals were primarily from BAP-certified processors in Vietnam and Bangladesh, and also included Indonesian shrimp for "added bulk."
