The South Jeolla Province has expressed expectations that the export of seaweed to the U.S. will expand further as seasoned seaweed has been exempted from the imposition of reciprocal tariffs. The U.S. announced on November 14 last year that it would apply reciprocal tariffs (15%) to some foods for which domestic production is absent or supply is insufficient, and seasoned seaweed has been included in the exempted items. Consequently, the price competitiveness of seasoned seaweed from South Jeolla in the U.S. market is expected to strengthen. Last year, the total export value of seaweed from South Jeolla was recorded at $364,410,000, with U.S. exports amounting to $155,300,000, accounting for 29% of the total. This represents a 62% increase from the previous year, with the U.S.
