USDA: Brazil's milk production is expected to grow to 24.5 million tons in 2023

In 2022, milk production followed a pattern similar to that of 2021, but in smaller volumes (about 8% less), as shown in the graph below. The exception was from June to August, when 2022 production grew faster than in 2021. The overall drop in production in 2022 is due to unfavorable weather conditions that resulted in worse pasture conditions, in addition to lower consumer demand, stagnation of the economy, low consumer disposable income and high retail milk prices. Although milk production in 2023 is expected to grow, producers will face difficulties due to high production costs, including animal feed. The climatic effects of La Ninã may also affect pasture production, although specialists predict that it will be milder in 2023 than in 2022. Figure 1.
