The U.S. Grains Council (USGC) has successfully incorporated U.S. distiller’s dried grains with solubles (DDGS) and corn gluten meal (CGM) into aqua feed produced by one of Egypt's largest feed producers. This initiative aims to replace fish meal with plant-based ingredients, reducing diet costs and improving fish survival rates and quality. In 2019, Egypt imported 140,000 tons of U.S. DDGS and 130,000 tons of U.S. CGM for poultry production, positioning it as a significant market for these co-products. The USGC is pursuing to increase DDGS and CGM usage in aquaculture feed through training sessions and technical assistance, with plans to extend its efforts through the USGC training center in Tunis, Tunisia. This strategy not only enhances the use of U.S. corn co-products in Egypt but also ensures food security through trade, building long-term trust in the availability and affordability of U.S. corn and co-products for the Egyptian food and feed industry.
