The Federation of Consumer Rights Protection Societies in Uzbekistan has conducted a study on the regions with the lowest and highest prices for vegetable oil. The research indicates that sunflower oil is less expensive in Navoi, Tashkent, Khorezm, and Bukhara regions, while cottonseed oil is more affordable in Karakalpakstan and Andijan region. However, the cost of cottonseed oil in Bukhara is the highest. Due to a surge in prices in the international market and reduced production volumes, high customs duties have been imposed on the export of sunflower oil and seeds, leading to a rise in the cost of local vegetable oil. In 2020, over 450 thousand tons of vegetable oil were sold to consumers in Uzbekistan, with over half being imported.
