Indonesia: Varieties of mung bean seed for sprout industry

My Agriculture — The Agricultural Research and Development Agency (Balitbangtan) has released more than 20 high-yielding varieties of green beans. These varieties produce an average of 0.90-1.98 tons per hectare with a harvest age of 51-70 days. The size of the seeds of mung bean varieties varies, ranging from small to large sizes with a weight between 2.5-7.8 grams per 100 seeds. The size of mung bean seeds has a different market share. Green beans with large seed sizes are used for the food and beverage industry because they facilitate the process of peeling the skin. Meanwhile, small green beans are more widely used for the germination industry because the seeds are able to produce more sprouts. Balitbangtan has two varieties of small seed green beans which were released in 2019. These varieties are Vimil 1 and Vimil 2 which have the advantage of being able to be developed in paddy fields and suboptimal lands.
