In the first two months of the year, Kazakhstan saw a significant increase in vegetable oil production, with a total of 111.8 thousand tons, marking a 31% increase from the previous year. The production of unrefined oil surged by 40.2%, while that of refined oil decreased by 1.3%. The majority of the production, 77%, was from sunflower oil. Local companies met 82.9% of the demand, which increased by 43%, while imports decreased by 13%. Vegetable oil exports doubled, reaching 320.5 thousand tons. However, the prices for vegetable oil, especially sunflower and olive oil, also increased significantly in February. The country plans to increase its sunflower oil refining capacity by 106,000 tons in the next two years, aiming to boost its total refining capacity to 429 thousand tons by 2025, a 50% increase from 2021.
