Vietnam's fruit exports have seen a significant increase of 30.6% in the first eight months of 2024, reaching a value of US$4.63 billion, with durian being the highest value fruit in exports. The country expects further growth in durian exports, potentially hitting US$400-500 million. This growth is attributed to the ability to export durian to China through official channels. To capitalize on this opportunity, Vietnam is focusing on improving durian quality and standardizing planting areas and packaging facilities. However, the durian industry faces challenges such as inconsistent product quality, lack of scientific investment, and small processing plant scales. There is a need for improving product quality, enhancing management and standardization, and addressing obstacles like immature fruit exports. Local governments are encouraged to strengthen quality supervision to enhance the global competitiveness of Vietnamese fruits.
