Vietnam has seen a 16.5% increase in cashew nut exports to the EU in 2021, making it the second largest market after the US. The EU accounted for 23% of the total export volume and 22% of the industry's value. The implementation of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) in 2020 has significantly reduced tariffs, offering great opportunities for the cashew industry. Despite challenges such as supply chain risks due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict and limited capacity for deeply processed products, the industry expects to grow by providing products that align with EU consumer preferences for healthy, alternative, and sustainable food. However, the industry faces hurdles in brand promotion, e-commerce, and meeting EU's strict quality and safety standards, particularly for organic products. There is a need for more information, support, and collaboration to navigate the European market and its trends to enhance the competitiveness of Vietnamese cashew products.
