This is primarily due to significantly increased lychee production during the main harvest season, and many other tropical fruits are also being harvested, leading to slowing domestic consumption and export demand.

Vietnamese customs data shows lychee exports dropped sharply in January-April this year. Export value was only $3.5 million, a 26.6% year-on-year decline. Although import volumes increased 25-116% in the US, Taiwan, and mainland China, 17 other markets experienced declines, with the Netherlands dropping 84% and France falling 40%. The Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association notes that this year's lychee harvest was later, early-season supply was limited, and increased transportation costs due to Middle East tensions impacted exports.

This year's Vietnamese lychee production is estimated at 250,000 tons, a 25% increase from last year, with Bac Giang Province alone producing 165,000 tons. However, due to weak domestic purchasing power and price collapse, the province has only sold around 13,000 tons of lychees, with an average of 2-3 containers of Bac Giang lychees exported daily through Lang Son and Lao Cai border gates
