Vietnam is set to significantly increase its watermelon exports to China following the signing of the 'Protocol on Phytosanitary Requirements for Vietnamese Fresh Watermelons Exported to China'. The agreement is expected to boost Vietnam's watermelon exports from $50 million to $70-80 million per year. With an annual production of over 1.5 million tons, of which 20% is exported, Vietnam will now be able to export watermelons to China from all permitted fruit import ports. Vietnamese watermelons, known for their high sugar content and crisp taste, have a seasonal advantage as they can be planted twice a year.
