A severe economic loss is expected due to the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the Free State, leading to the potential loss of wool and red meat export opportunities along with significant job losses. To prevent further spread, a ban on the movement of livestock has been imposed, and farmers are encouraged to implement biosecurity measures and cooperate with the plan. The public is also urged to comply with disinfection requirements. A total of 60,000 animals on infected farms have been vaccinated and are being quarantined for 21 days. Other farms and those that have received cattle from the infected farms must be on high alert for the next 21 days for any signs of the disease and report immediately.
