The cultivation of a climate crisis response aquaculture industry focusing on seaweed and abalone is being promoted in Wando County, Jeollanam-do. Wando County is 'the largest seaweed production area in the nation': last year, it produced 380,000 tons of kelp, accounting for 71% of the national total, 320,000 tons of seaweed accounting for 56%, and approximately 120,000 tons of laver, accounting for 23%. In particular, the region has a stable maritime environment, abundant nutrients, and a favorable environment for seaweed production, along with a production base, accumulated aquaculture technology, etc. Wando County has also prepared a strategy to cultivate a stable seaweed aquaculture industry and respond to the climate crisis in the future.
