Wando-gun in South Jeolla Province recently conducted training on 'Blue Carbon for Marine Forests in Response to Climate Crisis' for public officials at the Living Culture Center. 'Blue Carbon' refers to carbon absorbed and stored by marine ecosystems, which is known to have a carbon absorption rate up to 50 times faster than green carbon. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) under the UN has certified mangroves, salt marshes, and seagrasses as Blue Carbon. This training was organized to enhance understanding of blue carbon and build knowledge that can be applied to climate crisis and carbon neutrality policies, led by the Blue Carbon Strategy Office of the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency.
