The mushroom market is experiencing price fluctuations due to a decrease in production caused by the unavailability of foreign raw materials such as Ukrainian beet pulp and cottonseed, as well as abnormal weather conditions in India and Indonesia affecting sawdust quality. The lack of Ukrainian beet pulp has led to the use of lower quality products from Russia and Egypt, while the decrease in cottonseed and sawdust has affected the production of oyster and shiitake mushrooms, respectively. The National Mushroom Association is calling for government support to stabilize the supply of mushroom substrate and is warning of the potential impact of global supply chain instability on the mushroom market.
