National commissioner Nicola Dell’Acqua has suggested installing mobile desalination plants and refurbishing three existing ones in Sicily to address the water crisis, following a meeting with the region's president, Renato Schifani. The Sicilian Region has allocated 90 million for the project. Dell’Acqua stressed that the desalinated water would be an emergency measure and would cost around 2 euros per cubic meter. The control room in Sicily will serve as a model for other regions. The lack of dam construction in Sicily for 40 years and water distribution network issues have been noted by Nello Musumeci, the Minister for Civil Protection and Marine Policies.
