We had an increase in tomato imports in our country in the first eight months of 2023 compared to last year. 13,866 tons of tomatoes were imported, compared to 10,993 tons in 2022 (26.1% increase). As Mr. Georgios Polychronakis, Special Advisor of the Incofruit - Hellas Exporters Association, pointed out to AgroTypos, "according to the Association's data, 23.7% of tomatoes came from Albania, followed by Turkey and the Netherlands. In August 2023 alone, we imported 3,500 tons of tomatoes from Turkey. The average value of the tomatoes imported by our country was 1.96 euros per kilo. But Greece's imports were not limited to tomatoes only. 119 tons of kiwifruit were imported from Iran at an average price of 0.13 euros/kg and 241 tons of watermelons at 0.14 euros/kg.
