In the first half of 2020, Spain's fruit and vegetable exports experienced a mixed outcome, with a slight decrease of 3.5% in volume but a significant growth of 9.5%, totaling 7.2 million tons and 8,564 million euros, as per the Department of Customs and Special Taxes and FEPEX. This period saw a decline in the volume of key vegetables like tomatoes, lettuce, and cabbages, despite an increase in their value. Conversely, fruits, especially stone fruits, witnessed a surge in both volume and value. The autonomous communities of Andalusia, Valencia, and Murcia all saw variations in their horticultural exports. The latter half of the period noticed an 11% drop in exports in June, although there was a slight increase in value. FEPEX emphasizes the need for measures to address the decline in export volume and value in May and June, and to address challenges such as Brexit.
