The European Commission is being urged by Bulgaria's Minister of Agriculture and Food, Dr. Georgi Tahov, to ban the import of eggs from Ukraine due to the negative impact on the domestic market. The volume of Ukrainian egg imports has surged fivefold in the first half of 2024, reaching 2,618 tons, largely due to lower prices. Despite existing protective measures, the influx continues to pressurize the Bulgarian egg market. Tahov emphasizes Bulgaria's commitment to supporting Ukraine while protecting its own farmers from financial ruin. Additionally, during the EU Council on Agriculture and Fisheries, Tahov backed Germany's proposal to increase the minimum aid ceiling for the agricultural sector to 50,000 euros per enterprise, arguing that the current proposal is insufficient and risks causing internal tension in the agricultural sector.
