FundéuRAE celebrates International Coffee Day, on October 1st, with some insights into the language used around this popular beverage. On the occasion of International Coffee Day, which is celebrated every October 1st, the Foundation for Urgent Spanish (FundéuRAE), promoted by Agencia EFE and the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE), offers the following writing tips related to coffee. Nouns and adjectives that end in a stressed "e" form the plural with "s", according to the "Panhispanic Dictionary of Doubts". Therefore, the plural of "café" is "cafés" and the use of "cafeses" is not recommended. The names of coffee varieties are written with lowercase initials as they are considered common denominations. Additionally, they retain the "-a" ending in the adjective that comes from the Latin scientific name of the plant: "café arábica" and "café robusta" (from "Coffea arabica" and "Coffea robusta", respectively).
