The Center for Agricultural Economic Research (CAPA) reports that the survival of small and medium-sized livestock producers is under threat due to the failure of wholesale prices to rise in sync with feed prices. The report predicts that retail prices will reach BGN 4.95/kg for chicken, BGN 8.90/kg for pork, BGN 12.52/kg for beef, and BGN 14.56/kg for sheep meat from 2021-2025. Pork production is expected to recover and reach between 82-85 thousand tons by 2025, while chicken production is expected to rise to about 107 thousand tons. The EU is experiencing an oversupply of pork, which is suppressing price growth, but this is expected to change as production growth slows.
