The European Union is planning to impose restrictions on sugar imports from Ukraine, which could significantly impact the Ukrainian sugar industry. The European Commission intends to reduce the current annual import of 507,000 tons to 320,000 tons in 2024 and further to 150,000 tons by June 2025. This could potentially halt the industry's growth, prompting suggestions to explore other markets and add sugar to the list of goods exported from Black Sea ports. Meanwhile, in 2023, farmers in Vinnytsia, Ukraine harvested nearly 2.5 million tons of sugar beets, most of which have already been processed at sugar factories.
