In the Pecanes Mercedinos productive enterprise, curiously, what is most abundant are chemical engineers. Besides Roberto Basso, its founder, two of his three children chose that same professional branch over agronomy, confident that it would be of great utility to them. And they were not wrong.
"Chemistry is in everything. In the plants, in the soil, in the water, and in all the products we make. For me, it is an important contribution," said engineer Germán Basso, now also a pecan producer, to Bichos de Campo.
Indeed, chemistry turned out to be a great complement to the agronomic project that this family has been running on 17 hectares in the town of Mercedes, which has become a beacon for many producers in that Buenos Aires province area. The 70 plants with which they started in 2004 have grown into 950 that they now manage with pressurized irrigation and great technology.
