The article highlights a decrease in potato cultivation areas in Poland, from nearly 300,000. ha to over 180,000. ha in three years, primarily driven by a decline in starch potato production. Despite these changes, the country manages to meet its consumption needs, with about 1.7 million tonnes of potato production. The reduction in cultivation is shown to favor large, specialized farms. Poland's potato exports are predominantly to European countries like Romania, Serbia, Croatia, and Hungary, due to their decreased production and weaker yields. The article points out that edible potatoes with a red skin and yellow flesh are particularly in demand in Southern Europe.
