The Ministry of Agriculture in Argentina has distributed the Hilton Quota, which allows 29,500 tons of high-quality chilled and boneless meats to enter the European Union tariff-free from July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023. The allocation was based on the 'first arrived, first served' criterion and was awarded to 48 applicants, including companies and joint projects. The quota includes various cuts of beef and a smaller quota for buffalo meat. However, the history of this quota has not been smooth, with Argentina failing to meet its export commitments for a decade, which put the continuity of the Hilton Quota at risk. The country only began to correct this issue in 2019, but the pandemic in 2020 affected meat exports to the EU, although exports recovered in 2021 due to increased prices.
