The plow revolutionized agriculture, but over the years, its shortcomings have become apparent and alternative methods for soil cultivation have emerged. Some farmers even abandon plowing entirely. However, what do most agricultural producers use today, explains the German agricultural website Agrarheute. 3 tried and tested tips for plow-free farming According to a survey conducted between 3 and 15 December 2025 with the participation of 888 farmers, the most commonly used tools for soil cultivation are plows and cultivators. Over 73% of respondents stated that they use them as needed, while 13% abandon the plow. Around 8% apply various methods depending on the conditions, for example, a combination of direct sowing and mulching, and 5% do not cultivate the soil at all. Strip tillage is a rare practice - only 1% of participants. Regional differences are visible: the most participants come from Southern Germany (40%), followed by Western (23%), Northern (19%) and Eastern Germany ...
