In April 2024, the Biobío Region of Chile experienced a significant increase in wheat milling, with a 29.1% rise to 12,980 tons, as reported by the National Institute of Statistics. This increase was attributed to higher processing of wheat products and by-products, contributing to 7.9% of the country's total wheat milling of 163,468 tons, which also saw an 18.5% increase from the previous year. From January to April 2024, the Biobío Region processed 54,888 tons of wheat, marking a 9.0% increase, and contributed 12.5% to the national total of 617,944 tons, which grew by 3.1%. Additionally, the region saw a 7.4% increase in the production of wheat products, reaching 43,135 tons, and a 3.7% rise in the processing of wheat by-products, totaling 11,753 tons.
