(Jeonju=Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Jin-bang = The Rural Development Administration announced on the 20th that it has selected seven sites for the "2025 Highest Quality Agricultural Products Production Complex" in the field of horticulture and special crops.
The highest quality agricultural products production complex is selected from crop farms, research associations, and farming cooperatives that cultivate and ship vegetables, fruits, flowers, and special crops developed and nurtured by the Rural Development Administration, local rural development agencies, and others.
This year's grand prize (Prime Minister's Award) was awarded to the "Nonsan Watermelon Research Association Farming Cooperative" in Nonsan, South Chungcheong.
Established in 1999, this farming cooperative was the first in the nation to establish an Agricultural Products Distribution Center (APC) through investment by farmers in 2014. It has been working on systematic production and distribution management and quality improvement to produce high-sugar watermelon.
The excellence awards were given to the Asan Pear Research Association, the Yeongcheon Domestic New Variety Apple Research Association, and the Gochang Watermelon Association, while the excellence awards went to the Yeoncheon Korean Ginseng Farming Cooperative, the Cheongju Strawberry Research Association, and the Iksan Strawberry Research Association.
The selection results can be found on the Rural Development Administration website (www.rda.go.kr). The awards ceremony is scheduled to be held at the "Comprehensive Evaluation Meeting for Technology Dissemination Projects" in early December.
Kim Ji-seong, Director of the Technology Dissemination Division at the Rural Development Administration, said, "We will expand the cultivation of domestically developed varieties and continue efforts to promote excellence by taking the best practices of the highest quality agricultural products production complex as a mirror."
