The Mekong Delta is in the middle of its second shrimp harvest season of the year, with farmers experiencing challenges but seeing success with high-tech, intensive farming. The region's shrimp prices are high and supply is stable, but export pressures are low due to global inflation and a surplus in the market from India and Ecuador. Despite these challenges, Vietnam's shrimp industry is growing at a rate higher than the global average, with a focus on sophisticated processing techniques. Vietnamese shrimp continues to lead in several markets, including Japan, Korea, the UK, and Australia, and is increasing its market share in the EU. However, factors such as the impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, consumer stockpiling, and disease in shrimp farming in the Mekong Delta are expected to limit growth in shrimp exports to more than 4 billion USD in 2022.
