COFCO was born in 1949, the same year the People's Republic of China was founded, as a state agency tasked with ensuring grain and oil supplies in a country devastated by years of war. Over time, that initial structure transformed into a network of corporations dedicated to grains, oilseeds, and food, which ultimately became the backbone of the Chinese agro-industrial system. Today, after more than 75 years of history, COFCO is China's largest agri-food company and one of the world's leading firms, with operations in nearly 40 countries and a key role in global food trade. According to its latest balance sheet, corresponding to 2024, COFCO closed the year with total assets of 700,000 million yuan (about 97,000 million dollars) and revenues of 635,000 million yuan (close to 88,000 million dollars).
