Ecuador and India are experiencing growth in shrimp farming, raising concerns for Vietnam's goal of reaching a turnover of 10 billion USD. Vietnamese shrimp is becoming less competitive due to higher costs and a lower success rate in farming. Experts recommend focusing on seed quality and farming environment to reduce costs and improve success rates. They also suggest that Vietnam should follow Ecuador's example of domesticing to keep seed costs low and use disease-resistant broodstock. Additionally, the lack of certification in Vietnam, compared to other leading shrimp exporting countries, is also hindering its competitiveness.
