A few days ago, videos circulated on social media of a dozen wild boars enjoying the parks of the Llao Llao Hotel and photos of surprised neighbors in Bariloche. This material set off alarm bells in Patagonia: how does one handle a situation that has migrated from the countryside to the city? Over time, various strategies have been implemented, but addressing this complex issue requires a comprehensive approach. Different methods have been put into practice with varying degrees of success throughout the country. In a quick overview, we find Carmen de Patagones in Buenos Aires, where strategies are being explored and applied that combine non-lethal measures, such as herd management, the use of protective dogs or electric fencing, with lethal methods like night hunting or trap cages.
