Peru has experienced a significant increase in wine consumption, with per capita consumption rising by 55.5% since the onset of the Covid pandemic, reaching 2.8 liters per person per year. The market is dominated by wines from Argentina, Spain, and Chile, with a growing interest in Peruvian wines. The quality of Peruvian wines has improved, contributing to their increasing popularity, particularly patrimonial wines. Despite the challenges, only 8% of Peru's spirit exports are wine, highlighting the need for more promotion. The 5th National Peruvian Wine Competition is set to take place from October 16 to 19 in Ica, aiming to showcase the quality and diversity of Peruvian wines. In 2023, Peru's wine production decreased by 17.9% to 19.1 million liters, but wine exports increased by 1% to 559,100 liters, with the United States, France, Costa Rica, Spain, and Japan being the main importers.
