Spanish wine exports experienced a decline in both value and volume in 2020, with a 3.6% drop to 2,616.1 million euros and a 6% decrease to 2,012 million liters, as reported by the Spanish Wine Market Observatory (OeMv). The decline was attributed to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, Brexit, and tariffs imposed by the US. The market saw a significant shift, with bulk wines experiencing a 3.2% value drop and a 10% volume decrease, while bag-in-box wines showed the best growth, increasing by 23% in value and 41% in volume. Despite losing more than half of its sales to Russia and nearly a third to China, the sector saw increased sales in the UK, Netherlands, Norway, and Ireland. The negative effects of the coronavirus and other global trade disruptions were mitigated by a strong year-end performance.
