With almost 150 thousand tons of almonds produced in 2023, Pará is the leader in cocoa production in Brazil

Pará is the absolute leader in cocoa production in Brazil. According to the Executive Committee of the Cocoa Farming Plan (Ceplac), Pará produced 149,396 tons of almonds in 2023. The trans-Amazonian region represents 80% of production in the state. Bahia, historically leader in the ranking, now occupies second place; while Rondônia is the 3rd largest producer of cocoa. Brazil is the 7th largest cocoa producer in the world. Brazilian cocoa is produced with history, tradition, and in agroforestry systems that preserve the Atlantic forest and the Amazon. The attractiveness of the fruit, of Amazonian origin, has been increasing, especially among small producers of fine chocolates. In 2023, the gross value of production in Pará reached R$2.4 billion, with R$100 million in ICMS being collected.
