FranceAgriMer forecasts French barley exports to markets outside the EU in the 2022/23 crop year to reach 3.4 million tonnes, up 0.2 million tonnes per month due to the recent increase in grain exports to China. Ukraine's 2023 winter barley planting area is expected to reach the lowest level in recent years, reaching 675.7 thousand hectares in 2022. Ukraine's 2023 barley production is not expected to exceed 6 million tons. Major markets China and Saudi Arabia are expected to reduce grain imports. Currently, the price of new-crop barley in France is being offered for sale at $244-248/ton FOB. At the Romanian port, the price of new-crop barley delivered in July 2023 is at $190-195/ton. Ukraine still has stockpiles of old-harvested barley, with an expected price of about $175/ton, but there is no actual transaction. With the spot method, old-crop barley can be sold in small river ports at a very low price of 140-145 USD/ton, but without profit, the sales volume is very small. In ...
