On the occasion of World Food Day, the Food Bank (BAP) makes an urgent call to action in the face of the growing food crisis affecting the country. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), more than 17 million Peruvians live in moderate or severe food insecurity, which positions Peru as one of the most affected countries in South America. To this worrying figure is added another alarming data: each year around 12.8 million tons of food are wasted, equivalent to almost 48% of the national food supply. An amount that, according to specialists, would be enough to feed millions of people who today have nothing to eat. In the face of this reality, the Food Bank Peru has been working for more than a decade rescuing food suitable for human consumption that would otherwise be discarded.
