Worldwide tomato production exceeds 186,800 million kilos

According to data from Faostat, in 2020, the world produced 186,821 million kilos of tomatoes on 5,051,983 hectares, achieving an average yield per square meter of 3.71 kilos. According to the analysis carried out by Hortoinfo, in 2020 Spanish tomato production was 3 times higher than that of Morocco and 4.74 times higher than that of the Netherlands. Turkey produced 3 times more than Spain, and China, the first producer worldwide, produced 15 times more tomatoes than Spain. The Netherlands is the country with the best performance in the world as it obtained an average yield of 48.66 kg/m², i.e. 525.45% more than the 7.78 kg/m² achieved by Spain in 2020 (one kilo lower per square meter than in the previous year).
